Imagine being called to a conference by the sound of a conch shell, or watching engineers awkwardly learn the hula, or talking shop with a colleague while enjoying the luau.
The spirit of aloha was a big part of last month’s IEEE MTT International Microwave Symposium in Honolulu. The hosts were generous and enthusiastic, and although there were big issues to learn more about, there was also a laid-back atmosphere that really lent itself to networking and fun.
The location also meant that, compared to an event on the mainland, participants interacted with more experts and colleagues from the Asian Pacific region, which was a great opportunity.
Preparing for the rollout of 5G technology was the focus of this year’s event. Don Pavlek, president and CEO of Quantic Corry, said prospective customers were eager to learn more about CMI’s RF power amplifiers, RF filters, and microwave RF switches.
“5G will represent a huge opportunity for CMI, and the RF and microwave industry,” Pavlek said. “ABI Research estimates that the overall 5G system revenue, which includes equipment and services, will top $19 billion by 2025.” That figure represents a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 15 percent.
“CMI has been working with several large cellular companies in preparation for their 5G system deployments,” he added. “I think we are well positioned for the rollout.”
